Not Another Pimple! How To Avoid The Holiday Breakouts

Now that the holidays are here, it's time to prepare yourself for all the pictures. Chances are pretty good that you're going to get rounded up for at least one group photo at every party you attend this year. The last thing you want is to be stuck with a major acne break out. That's all you need is to have a lasting reminder of the year you had an acne breakout right during the holidays. Luckily, you don't have to let acne get the upper hand this year. You can take control and keep acne away using the simple methods that are described below:

Take Time to Relax

The holidays are a great time to spend catching up with family and friends. Unfortunately, the holidays can also be extremely stressful, which means your cortisol levels are going to go through the roof from time-to-time. Cortisol is a stress hormone that can cause acne breakouts. To make sure you avoid the spikes in cortisol production and reduce the occurrence of holiday acne breakouts, take time to relax. Spend a few minutes each day meditating, doing yoga, or going for a walk. Whatever you choose to do, make sure it's an activity that will allow you to relax and reduce the stress.

Watch What You Eat and Drink

The holidays are filled with lots of yummy food to eat. Unfortunately, the yummy food you're indulging in isn't necessarily good for you or your skin. To avoid holiday breakouts, try to limit that amount of sugary foods and beverages you consume. Try adding more water and fresh leafy vegetables to your diet during the holidays. Throw some fresh greens into the blender and create a cleansing smoothy for your skin.

An Aspirin a Day Keeps the Acne Away

If you're going to be flying during the holidays, and you don't want to mess with trying to pack your acne cleansers, just pack a bottle of aspirin. The salicylic acid found in aspirin is also found in many acne cleansers. Simply fill a measuring cup with lukewarm water and add two aspirins. Allow the aspirins to dissolve and then dab the solution on your acne with a cotton ball. The solution will dry out the acne and clear up your complexion.

Get Professional Help

If your acne gets out of control during the holidays this year, you need to schedule an appointment with your dermatologist. You may have developed an allergic reaction to something, or have an underlying condition that has caused the breakout.
